Something Happened on the Way to Kruger

If you don’t like the scenery in South Africa, just drive a little while. It will change.

We were on our way to Kruger National Park, passing endless veld fires (pronounced “felt” fires for American ears), on flat or barely undulating hills, through crowded towns and littered settlements. At one point we were driving through a tunnel of lumber-grown trees, when we opened onto this scene.

Neither of us talked for several miles as we wound through this section of R40.

We found the R40 to Kruger engaging, with scenes like this interspersed with the regional character of people in the small towns and petrol stops.

Happy Over-the-Hump Day!

Love, Marla
