Rock Monitor

On our second trip to The Kruger we came across this rock monitor (aka white-throated monitor or legavaan) on a back road in the southwest region of the park. He was less than a meter long, between 2.5-3 feet.

The rock monitor is the 2nd longest lizard on the continent of Africa, and has the heaviest body.

He moved faster than I expected, and I it took several tries to get a clear enough shot of him, and only one with his tongue flickering.

According to wikitardia, rock monitors can count to six. I believe this makes rock monitors smarter than me I.

Enjoy, and happy over-the-hump day!

Love, Marla
