Visiting William Wordsworth’s Rydal Mount and Wishing Leslie a Happy Birthday

I thought it would be fun to do a “this day in history” photo blog, but it proved to be difficult coming up with something from September 8th that matched photos in my digital collection. The only thing I knew about September 8th is that it’s my friend Leslie’s birthday.

I thought of trying to figure out a clever way of combining Leslie with something historical that occurred on September 8th, but wanting a photo blog I wasn’t sure that could happen. Then I stumbled across a small fact that on 08 September, 1798, the first edition of Lyrical Ballads, by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, was published. Wordsworth’s “Daffodils” and Coleridge’s “Kubla Khan” were two of my favorite poems as a teenager.

Last year on a travel writing trip to England I visited Rydal Mount, the historic home and gardens of William Wordsworth. Guess who happened to visit Rydal Mount with me? Yep, my good friend, Leslie! Well here are some more photos of that visit for you to enjoy.
