Willis Walk Bridle Path in Simon’s Town

South Africa travel expat life

Between the Boulder’s Beach parking lot and the Boulder’s Beach Penguin Colony is a beautiful boardwalk named Willis Walk.

Before reaching the official SANParks Boulders Visitor Center and penguin viewing area, visitors can sneak peaks at many penguins nesting and nestled under the shrubs along the walk, where caretakers have made plenty of nesting sites for the penguins.

We were greeted by an adorable Rock Dassie along the way.

Hard to believe that this little rock dassie is the closest living relative of the elephant

Did you know that the Rock Dassie is genetically the closest living animal to an elephant? Seriously. Yeah, I had a head scratch on that one, too.

Dogs are welcome on the walk, as long as they are maintained on a leash so as not to disturb the penguins and as long as humans take care to make regular deposits at the Poo-In.

From about halfway along the walk you begin to see the penguins sunning themselves on the boulders in False Bay.

But don’t be surprised if the beauty of the walk itself has you taking your time and enjoying the views before you finally do reach the penguins.

November is a pretty time in the Cape

A truly beautiful walk in springtime.

This is another place on our do-again list for visiting Cape Town, and I hope if you get the chance to visit South Africa, Simon’s Town is on your must-see list.

Love, Marla
