Klipspringers Are the Cutest Things Since…Uh…Bambi?

Okay, so let’s not bring Bambi into this. But seriously, this tiny species of antelope is less than 2 feet tall and according to wikitardia, “They stand on the tips of their hooves and can fit all four hooves on a piece of cliff the size of a Canadian dollar.”

We saw these klipspringers atop a crop of rocks as we drove north from Satara to Olifants in The Kruger.

Our first glimpse of klipspringer from a distance.

From a distance, not having yet learned about klipspringers, I was trying to figure out why there were steenboks on top of rocks, and we spent several excited minutes searching for predators on the ground below.

Not steenbok

But after looking again through our wildlife guidebooks, we realized they were actually klipspringer, an equally diminutive antelope, whose name actually means “rock jumper.”

Speaking of Bambi, I think there are a lot more cases for kids’ movies based entirely on varieties of antelope. I mean, seriously. Haven’t we had enough of Simba already? Maybe I just can’t feel the love tonight.

Seriously. Could they be any cuter?

But I do feel the love for these klipspringers, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the photos.

Love, Marla
