Help! There’s a Boerboel on my Bird Feeder!

Today’s post is a guide for my husband. Knowing how I love birdwatching and the pretty calls of a little bird called a bulbul, he sometimes asks how my day was, followed by “And were there any boerboels on the feeder today, dear?”

Boerboel:

This beautiful boerboel is actually up for adoption at WetNose Animal Rescue.

Bulbul:

Bulbuls on the feeder at our house. They’re rather plain-looking but oh they sing pretty!

Part of the difficulty in remembering the names is that to our American ears, the pronunciation of -bul and -boel sound the same.

In any case, I thought I would share our little inside joke:

Did you have any boerboels on the feeder today?

Happy Tuesday, readers!

Love, Marla

  1. Fun fact: in Turkish, “bülbül” means “nightingale.” I can’t tell from the photos if that’s what you have, but if not, quite a coincidence!
