Favorite Holiday Music?

Just thought I’d share my top three favorite holiday music pieces. I’m picky about the version, so not just any rendition will do. They have to be the following version by these musicians:

Straight No Chaser’s “Twelve Days of Christmas”

.

Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”

.

Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside”

.

Regular readers: feel free to share yours in comments below!

Love, Marla

  1. What a treat!! I’d never heard of the Straight No Chasers – can you believe it? Where have I been all these years? Do so love the Zooey & Leon version of “Baby it’s Cold…” – Spot on, Marla! Hope your celebrating is special all through the New Year. XO

  2. I don’t know how I could have forgotten The Story of Snoopy’s Christmas!!! I think THAT is my number one choice. I probably forgot it because I keep it on my iPod year-round, so it’s JUST a Christmastime song for me. Haha

    1. Dear Brandon, check your email for your aunt Marla’s multiple renditions of King Wenceslas.
And in the meantime, Snoopy (How could I have forgotten that one!?!?!?!)

  3. I get all excited when they first start playing Christmas music – even if it is the day after Halloween 😉 but by Thanksgiving they are playing these weird obscure versions that just don’t sound right. If I can’t sing along to it I don’t want to hear it. Another quirk I proudly embrace.

  4. Pandora apparently thinks I *LOVE* Straight No Chaser. No matter what I play, Pandora pushes them on me. I haven’t heard this though- it’s fun!
My favorite three Christmas songs are:
    1. Annie Lennox – “The First Noel” – I love her, she’s got some lungs, and her version is powerful.
    2. Mariah Carey – “All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Yes, I know.
    3. No Doubt – “Oi! To the World” – It reminds me of being a teenager, but not only is there the nostalgia, but I really love it.
Very close runners-up are Guster’s “Donde Esta Santa Claus” and Barenaked Ladies with Sarah McLachlan singing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”
A favorite old Xmas song of mine is “Good King Wenceslas” but it’s hard to find any good current version.

    1. Great choices!
Ahh man! How could I have missed BNL/SM God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen! Love it!

  5. I have always absolutely LOVED that version of 12 Days of Christmas, and I’m sure the first-pumping “I felt the rains down in Africa” part has special meaning for you 😉 My wife and I just watched it again last night. What an amazing performance.

My best holiday and New Year wishes to you, Marla.

Peace, love and all the good stuff 😉
