Busy week here for me. I have a seemingly endless checklist for this move to South Africa, including many doctor and dentist appointments for me, and vet and dealer appointments for Baxter and “Henry” the Jeep. And don’t even get me started on how the house is going!

Wish me luck getting it all done before the May move!

Love, Marla

This book looks and sounds fascinating! I entered the draw, but am looking for it in my library just in case; you may want to enter the draw as well.
You may also want to follow Marla’s adventures as she and her husband move to live in Africa for a while. ~ Linne

  2. Its been a long time since dad was still alive. I’ve already outlined him by several years. It’s funny, when he died I remember thinking “well at least he wasn’t too young!” Seriously, on what planet is 45 years NOT too young?! Strange how your perception of age changes so dramatically depending on your own age at the time! I miss him terribly sometimes! While the “old man” (funny to even call him that now, since he never got to BE old!) was not well equipped to handle a teenage son, he was without equal when it came to babies and small children!
I remember as a young man with a son and daughter of my own, how I regretted my children not getting to know him. They have no experiences with him to understand how I can see certain qualities in them that remind me so much of him! They’ve heard me and others tell stories, but Im sorry for the fact that they never got to build memories of their own with him!! My children would have loved him for his “unique quirks” and he would have loved them in kind!
I’m beyond happy, and blessed for the way both my children have grown into incredible adults, and wouldn’t change a thing about either of them!! I’m proud beyond words of them both, but sad to think how much richer in experiences they would both be had they got to know my father as I did!
I’m very grateful that my mother lived long enough to share so much of her life with my children, as I know they are both grateful for that too!
Now I have grandchildren who will never get to meet either of my parents. I can only hope that I can leave some small impression on them the way that I dream my parents would have left with my children.
Instant coffee, the smell of wood chips and stale cigarette smoke! These are some of the little things I miss most.
