Do you have holiday movie traditions? Growing up the staples in our family were It’s a Wonderful Life and Wizard of Oz, since they were on television every year, along with a collection of musicals: South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, White Christmas. Of course A Christmas Story was on television as well, but it wasn’t one of my favorites.
This year Kurt and I are watching all of the above except Wizard of Oz, and added a few of our own favorites to our Christmas movie marathon: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Year Without a Santa Claus, and Die Hard.
To accompany our nearly seventeen hour movie marathon, we’re gorging on buffalo chicken dip, l’il smokies in bbq sauce & jelly, spinach dip with pumpernickel bread, deviled eggs, scallops wrapped in bacon, cream puff cake and, of course, because we actually do want some healthful choices in there: assorted raw veggies. This is the first year I’ve substituted low fat ingredients for most of the recipes, and turkey bacon for the scallops. (Of course, I would trade it all for one dark chocolate marzipan bar {sigh} ).
What are your holiday traditions? What are your holiday foods? Do you have movies you watch every holiday season (regardless of whether or not they’re actually holiday movies)?
However you celebrate or not celebrate, remember, it really is a wonderful life, so don’t shoot your eye out and whatever else you do, remember to shout “Yippee Ki-Yay Mother [Fluffer]!”

Love watching movies and binging on holiday cookies and M & M’s especially. My husband Kurt goes for Bond — the more James Bond the better. I like the classics: Charlie Brown’s Christmas, Frosty etc. My kids have watched Sponge Bob’s Holiday Special over and over, so of course, I’ve caught some of that. And I’m a huge wuss because we watch “The Drummer Boy” every year and I well up when Ba Ba the lamb is involved in a hit and run by the Gladiators. My all time favorite movie to watch around the lazy after-Christmas pre-New Year’s time is “Romancing the Stone.” The the travel and the humor. I saw your FB post today with the really healthful food and was feeling bad about all the garbage I’m eating, even with substituting lower fat/sugar options, so thank you so much for eating some peanut butter balls.Have a very merry Christmas, and please don’t shoot your eye out. 😉

We’re still trying to figure out our combined Xmas traditions. Next year will be better just because we will really be settled here We’re getting there, though. Anthony beat me at Dradle the other night and stole all my chocky coins (which he then shared with me). We need a good menorah. We usually watch more movies, but not so much this year (busy). We did watch Charlie Brown’s Christmas special the other night. We’ve got a couple of classic Christmas cartoon collections lined up on Netflix for tonight and tomorrow. My go-to Xmas movie is The Ref. =D I love the classics, too: It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, almost any version of A Christmas Carol (I need to find me a copy of George C. Scott’s). We watch the slasher “Black Christmas” every year. Reminds me: I need to get me a copy of ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night.’ There are some great Christmas horror flicks out there–I suggest you work one into your tradition. =) I do have one from my dad that I do: he would play Handel’s ‘Messiah’ on Christmas morning, every year. We’d get up, have tea or coffee while we opened presents, then mom would get on a massive breakfast while Handel’s ‘Messiah’ played. So, I still do that, only it’s me making breakfast. =)
I love combined traditions. I have friends in Los Angeles who combine and it’s so cool. I was bummed that Charlie Brown’s special wasn’t in our mix. We may have to add it next year. I also want to add The Last Holiday with Queen Latifah (I know. I’m so weird.) Ha – I totally want to try a Christmas horror flick. I should sandwich it between a couple musicals.
We bought stuff to make SOS for breakfast tomorrow, and I bought a coffee at Starbucks today, sans toppings and put it in the fridge. I’m going to try to nuke it and top it in the morning and see if I can de-ass the taste.

Merry Christmas – all the very, very best of the season to you and yours! I stayed up until 2 a.m.watching the Muppet Christmas Carol! I love Miss Piggy when she sneaks a bite of the Christmas pudding. I can so relate to her!! Looking forward to the many 2013 blogging adventures waiting for us!!
