Win a Rhino!

Not a real rhino, silly. But this adorable Rhino bookmark is for one of you, and once he’s yours you can always give him a name.

A cute rhinoceros bookmark I picked up for you in Kruger!

All you have to do to enter is help me raise awareness for rhino conservation.

Easy to win me! Easy to use me!

Enter several times!

  • Share this post at least one place, such as Facebook, Twitter, or your blog. If you don’t do social media, you can email the link to friends and encourage them to read/share. (Make sure to tag me or comment below so I know you shared.)
  • Follow at least ONE of these great organizations (extra entries for multiple follows!), on Twitter or Facebook, or by email (make sure to let me know in comments below):

Africa Inside, where you can learn how they help African children become animal heroes. Follow them on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, by email.

SavetheRhino.org, raising awareness and fighting poaching in Africa and Asia. Follow them on Twitter, Facebook, on YouTube or by email newsletter.

Project Rhino KwaZulu Natal, a collective of private and public organizations fighting Rhino Poaching in KZN. Follow them YouTube, read their blogs, or perhaps volunteer to help them set up Social Media accounts (they aren’t asking, I’m just suggesting.)

Friends, if you have never seen a dead rhino from poaching, this is what one looks like. There are no words to describe how awful it is, and I cry every time I look. If you’re strong enough, then look. It’s something you can’t ever forget, and I believe it gives a better understanding of just how cruel and senseless it is. I won’t post an actual photo on here, because it’s not the type of content I share. But if you’re strong enough, and I think you are, please go look.

And in keeping with my own postings, I’ll end with photos of beautiful live rhinos we saw while in Kruger National Park. (Baby rhino coming next week on the “Baby Big Five.”)

Love, Marla

We had stopped to watch this white rhino grazing off to the right, when Kurt saw it was meandering toward the road. We stayed put and sure enough, he crossed in front of us.

Although I have a great zoom lens, we actually gave this fella’ plenty of space, unlike the car approaching from the other direction. We thought we might see a NatGeo moment, but thankfully he turned away again and headed off into the undergrowth.

Remember to keep your distance and careful not to startle these big beauties!

  1. I love this way to spread the word. I don’t need the bookmark (have many :)) but am sharing this because it’s important. Thanks so much for the mention. 🙂
